Frederick William Gibson (1865-1901)

Frederick Gibson was born in Scarborough the son of the photographer William George Gibson. In the 1881 census he was a 16 year old, recorded as living with the family and working as an artists assistant. Ten years later he was lodging (along with his brother Harry) with a tailor, Joseph Beilby and his wife at 51 St Thomas Street in Scarborough, his occupation is given as a photographer, although it is not known where. Father and son were working together from the same studio in North Marine Road in 1897. Frederick also had a studio in Tindall Street and possibly in Leeds, where there was a Fred W. Gibson recorded.

Frederick William Gibson (1865-1901) married the American Lucretia Dowson Varley in 1895. Following his death in 1901 Lucretia took over the business and ran it for at least a year.
