John Smith (b.1834)

John Smith was the son of a Scarborough watchmaker and jeweller John Smith (b.1807). He was listed in the 1851 census living at home with his family at 74 Newborough Street and like his father was a watchmaker. By 1861 he was living only with his mother Elizabeth (b.1806) who was a widow and jeweller and he was an artist. He was listed as a photographer at 26 New Queen Street in 1864 and 1867.

In 1851 the family home at 74 Newborough Street was also occupied by John’s parents John and Elizabeth and his younger siblings, William (b.1835), Hannah (b.1839), Elizabeth (b.1842) and Charles (b.1847).
