North Bay Snaps Ltd

North Bay Snaps Ltd was established in the late 1920s. They mainly worked streets taking ‘walkies’ in the North Bay area but had an outlet in Eastborough and a studio in North Marine Road. The company was established by John and Jessie Haydon. When they died (John died in July 1934) it was taken over by sisters Winifred and Ruth Haydon and their aunt, Clara Watson. There are some postcards which have the name Haydon Studios on the back at the same address in Eastborough. It is reported that in 1941 the company had been bankrupt and that new Directors J. Dixey of 116 Prospect Mount Road, Scarborough and Miss C. E. Watson of 2 Coldwell’s Hill, Stainland, Halifax had provided capital of £1000 in £1 shares to enable the company to continue trading as photographers. The Peasholm Gap property is mentioned in a report of 1953 so the company was probably still operating at this point.

In 1937 employees, Mr Charles Tanguy (director and works manager) and Mr Frederick Preston (secretary and accountant) were taken to court to recover money transferred into their personal accounts and that of Mrs Tanguy (saleswoman).
